Equipment selection based on short-circuit studies and protection coordination. Relay settings and coordination, determining optimal settings for protection IEDs, such as time curves, current and voltage values, to ensure selective operation. · Interventions that disable or involve recovery of protection systems, teleprotection, or reclosing on energized equipment. · Knowledge of the operation and functioning of transformers, circuit breakers, disconnectors, busbars, and other components of a power substation. · Proficiency with configuration and maintenance software for equipment, specific manufacturer programs used to interact directly with devices installed in substations, as well as for real-time monitoring and control. Handling and integration of IED (Intelligent Electronic Device) tools: Brands such as ABB, Siemens, GE, etc., have their own software for configuration, diagnostics, and analysis of protection relays and control units, as well as SCADA software (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition), Wonderware InTouch, Ignition SCADA, WinCC (Siemens), or others. · Supervision of future projects entering the CVC system during engineering, project execution, and commissioning phases. Supervises, requests, and verifies necessary tests for proper operation before going live. FAT tests: Reviews and proposes that equipment meets technical specifications prior to shipment. SAT tests: Conducts and proposes functional and routine field tests, such as secondary current injection to verify relay operation logic, polarity of CTs and VTs, continuity of trip circuits. Correct verification of signal transmission, logic, timestamps, diagrams, alarms, trips, etc. · Provide real-time support to operations and maintenance teams. Execute and lead critical preventive and corrective maintenance activities to ensure protection system operability. Preventive maintenance: Schedules and performs periodic tests on control IEDs, protection relays, and associated equipment to detect potential failures. Event analysis: Investigates causes of electrical system faults using data recorded by relays, such as oscillography and event logs. Troubleshooting: Diagnoses and corrects protection system failures, such as unexpected tripping or failure to operate during actual faults. Ensure backups of all existing configurations by version. Implement remote data collection and extraction for analysis and reporting to regulatory bodies. · Document and represent in drawings the various protection architectures of CVC systems. · Supervise and participate in maintenance work at different CVC power substations. Solid understanding of Power Systems, from design to operation, including knowledge of transformers, circuit breakers, disconnectors, busbars, and other substation components. · Propose the incorporation of necessary equipment for proper operation of protection, measurement, and control systems. · Run load flow and short-circuit analyses, IED parameterization, to improve and maintain electrical system reliability according to industry regulations. · Firmware verification, version checks, and proposal of updates or replacements. Assessment of reliability and effectiveness of existing protection schemes. System upgrades: Propose and lead projects to replace obsolete equipment with more modern, reliable, and robust technology.
