




ConeTec is a leading provider in the geotechnical site investigation industry, delivering services and expertise in surface condition testing within unique environments. Working as a contractor within the infrastructure, construction, and mining industries, the field engineer is responsible for safety, efficiency, and proper operation of equipment used for geotechnical and geophysical site investigations. With significant responsibility, the field engineer oversees the smooth and accurate execution of multiple projects—from equipment deployment through data acquisition and reporting. The engineer will work closely with equipment operators, gaining hands-on experience with specialized heavy machinery and sophisticated geotechnical instrumentation across a variety of environments. The field engineer will assume numerous additional roles—from field operator assistant to project coordinator—as workplace demands continually evolve. A successful candidate must possess well-developed interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills, as well as strong problem-solving abilities. GENERAL POSITION OBJECTIVES * Develop solid working knowledge of site investigation practices and procedures. * Build understanding of soil mechanics, in-situ testing, and field geophysical investigation. * Gain experience and exposure as a contractor within the largest industries. Expand established skills through training and certifications to become a valuable asset to a high-performing team. * ROLES, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND EXPECTATIONS Equipment Operation * Become familiar with the safe and productive operation of CPTu equipment, vane shear test (VST) systems, sampling systems, various geophysical instruments, and other in-situ testing equipment. * Become a competent, company-trained and certified operator on multiple types of drilling rigs and other equipment within our extensive fleet. * Organize logistics for mobilization and demobilization of equipment in hard-to-access environments. Perform routine maintenance on various pieces of equipment to ensure optimal performance. * Data Collection and Reporting * Conduct tests to collect data in an organized, accurate, and timely manner. * Compile daily data collection, sample logging, etc., and submit to the supervising engineer and/or client for subsequent processing. * Collect field notes and photographs to ensure the most accurate possible translation of data from field to office. Prepare and compile the final field report. * Health and Safety * First and foremost, identify with and uphold ConeTec’s safety culture. * Ensure appropriate preparation and full awareness of all required safety operational procedures before commencing any work. * Immediately report any safety-related incidents, violations, or near misses to the project manager and safety officer. Know and follow incident reporting protocols at all times. * Other General Responsibilities * Communicate with the supervisor or project manager regarding any equipment issues or needs, as well as any field observations that may be useful. * **Perform other workshop duties** as required. REQUIRED SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS, AND EXPERIENCE Education Requirements * Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Geological, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering, or Applied Sciences. * Preferably licensed and registered with a professional engineering association. Intermediate English proficiency (Mandatory). * Experience Requirements * **Minimum 1 year of field experience.** * **Experience in geotechnical investigation and supervision.** Technical Skills Requirements * Experience with Microsoft Excel is an advantage. Mechanical and electrical skills are advantageous but not required. * Soft Skills Requirements * Must be able to maintain effective communication with clients. * Must possess strong work ethic and represent the company professionally. * Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships. * Must be responsible and capable of working independently or within an established team with minimal supervision. * Must enjoy working outdoors and traveling for extended periods.
