Job Summary: We are seeking a Semi-Senior PHP & Java Developer to modernize legacy systems and build new backend services within a Staff Augmentation environment. Key Highlights: 1. Collaborative teamwork under agile methodologies **Semi-Senior PHP \& Java (Spring Boot) Developer — REST APIs and Legacy Systems Modernization** *PHP \| Java \| Spring Boot \| REST APIs \| Microservices \| IT Staff Augmentation* **Are you motivated to combine intelligent maintenance of legacy systems with building modern new backend services?** We are looking for a Semi-Senior PHP \& Java Developer to join a backend modernization project under an IT Staff Augmentation / Staffing engagement with our client. **About the Project** The role is responsible for maintaining, evolving, and supporting legacy applications built in PHP, as well as developing and integrating new backend services using Java (Spring Boot). You will participate in initiatives to decouple components, create REST APIs, and integrate legacy systems with new platforms—ensuring code quality, security, traceability, and maintainability. **What Will You Do in This Role?** Your mission will be to maintain and evolve PHP applications while driving the development of new Java-based backend services, as part of a progressive modernization process. * Analyze, maintain, and enhance legacy PHP applications (v7\.4\). * Develop new components, services, and REST APIs using Java with Spring Boot. * Participate in initiatives for progressive decoupling and modernization of legacy systems. * Analyze and resolve technical incidents in development, QA, and production environments. * Write unit tests and support integration testing. * Manage source code using Git, applying appropriate branching strategies, commits, and pull requests. **What Are We Looking For?** * **Experience:** Minimum 4 years of backend application development experience, including at least 3 years with PHP and 2 years with Java. **Technical Competencies:** * **PHP:** Maintenance and evolution of legacy applications, progressive refactoring, Composer, and at least one framework such as Laravel, Symfony, or CodeIgniter. * **Java \& Spring Boot:** Java 17 or later, Spring Boot, Spring Web, Spring Data JPA, REST API development, Maven or Gradle. * **Databases:** MySQL and PostgreSQL (queries, stored procedures, functions, views); SQL Server is desirable. * **APIs and Integration:** Design, development, and consumption of REST APIs; handling of JSON/XML; authentication via OAuth 2\.0 or JWT; documentation using OpenAPI/Swagger; tools such as Postman or Insomnia. * **Architecture and Quality:** Knowledge of microservices, layered, modular, or hexagonal architectures; SOLID principles, Clean Code, and design patterns; SonarQube or SonarCloud experience is desirable. * **Testing:** Unit testing with JUnit and Mockito; support for integration testing. * **DevOps:** Git and platforms such as GitHub, GitLab, or Bitbucket; basic CI/CD, Docker, and Linux knowledge; familiarity with Kong, Grafana, or Prometheus is desirable. * **Methodologies:** Experience with agile methodologies (Scrum/Kanban) and management tools such as Jira, Azure DevOps, or GitHub Projects. **Desired Education and Certifications:** * Professional degree in Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields (desirable but not mandatory). * Certifications or courses related to Java / Spring Boot and/or PHP (desirable but not mandatory). * Certification or training in agile methodologies such as Scrum (desirable but not mandatory). **Soft Skills:** * Collaborative work and integration with multidisciplinary teams. * Proactivity and results orientation. * Analytical thinking and problem-solving ability. * Clear communication and strong technical documentation skills. * Adaptability to diverse technologies and systems. * Willingness to continuously learn and stay updated. **Main Responsibilities** * Analyze, maintain, and improve legacy PHP applications. * Develop new components, services, and REST APIs using Java and Spring Boot. * Drive initiatives for progressive decoupling and modernization of legacy systems. * Diagnose and resolve technical incidents in development, QA, and production environments. * Write unit tests and collaborate on integration testing. * Apply best practices for source code management using Git. **What Do We Offer?** * **Impact:** Direct involvement in modernizing legacy systems and building new backend services. * **Learning:** Exposure to a dual tech stack (PHP and Java/Spring Boot), as well as architecture, quality, and observability practices. * **Collaborative Culture:** Teamwork under agile methodologies, with code reviews via pull requests. * **Work Modality:** Hybrid — 2 to 3 days onsite and the rest remote (first 15 days of onboarding are 100% onsite). **Are You Motivated by This Challenge?** If you have solid experience in PHP and Java, and are motivated to work both on evolving legacy systems and building modern new backend services, this is your opportunity to grow professionally within a technically demanding and collaborative environment. **Apply now by sending us your updated CV — let’s discuss this opportunity.** *IT Staffing and Consulting — empowering tech talent, one project at a time.* Salary: S/.3,000\.00 \- S/.5,000\.00 per month Application Question(s): * What is your monthly salary expectation in Peruvian Soles (S/)? * How many years of experience do you have in the requested profile? * Do you agree with the hybrid work modality (onsite in Lima)? * What is your availability, in days, to start your new role?
