Job Summary:
We are seeking a Sampler for Anglo American, responsible for mining sampling and its processing, ensuring continuity of the loading and hauling process.
Key Highlights:
1. Strictly comply with safety and environmental regulations.
2. Conduct blasting, geo-metallurgical, density, and drilling sampling.
3. Operate equipment (backhoe) and use acQuire software for data.
Company Description
Anglo American, in partnership with Mitsubishi Corporation, is developing the Quellaveco mining operation — one of the world’s largest copper deposits — located in the Moquegua region in southern Peru.
Quellaveco has a 30-year reserve life. It will employ open-pit mining and flotation processes to produce copper concentrates, as well as molybdenum and silver as by-products. Quellaveco is expected to produce an average of 300,000 tonnes of copper per year during its first 10 years of operation.
At Anglo American, our strategy is to secure and develop Quellaveco by applying innovative practices and technologies, entrusted to our people. We are committed to becoming partners for the future, operating safely, sustainably, and responsibly.
Job Description
At Anglo American, we are currently seeking a **Sampler**.
The position will be responsible for strictly complying with safety, occupational health, environmental protection regulations, and performing sampling of blast holes, geo-metallurgical samples, density samples, stockpiles, diamond drill cores, RC (reverse circulation) drill samples; operating equipment (backhoe); and other tasks as defined in procedures; processing and timely delivering samples to mechanical preparation and chemical laboratories for respective processing and analysis — thereby generating information for accurate characterization of various materials (classification, tonnage, and grade), ensuring proper disposition of each material and guaranteeing continuity of the loading and hauling process across all mining fronts.
**Key Responsibilities**
* Identify hazards, assess risks, and apply controls established in PETS, IPERC, Continuous IPERC, PETAR, ATS, or any other applicable safety document, in coordination with the immediate supervisor, prior to commencing any activity.
* Halt any activity that could cause significant environmental impact or endanger worker health and safety, company assets, or product quality requirements.
* Perform sampling of various types (blast holes, geo-metallurgical, density, stockpiles, diamond drill cores, RC, etc.), following defined procedures to ensure sample representativeness.
* Operate equipment (backhoe) only if trained and certified as an operator by Anglo American Quellaveco.
* Use acQuire software to input information into the blasting hole database at a basic level, generate sampling batches and barcode labels for field identification of samples and blast holes.
* Evaluate sample distribution across batches or lots and generate/insert control samples (blanks, standards, duplicates) for chemical analysis and subsequent QA/QC.
* Ensure timely delivery of samples to internal and/or external laboratories for mechanical preparation and chemical analysis, including necessary control samples.
* Maintain continuous communication with the team leader, Geology Specialist, and Ore Control Geologist to coordinate timely decision-making and support the mining area.
* Coordinate with Ore Control and Chemical Laboratory supervision to select rejects (fines and coarse) for metallurgical testing and external verification at secondary laboratories.
* Transport diamond core sample boxes and RC sample bags.
* Take photographs of diamond core and RC drill samples.
* Manage and control control samples (standards, fine blanks, coarse blanks).
* Manage and control sampling consumables, materials, and tools used in field sampling (bags, seals, sacks, shovels, trays, etc.).
* Conduct technical visits to laboratories providing geological services, accompanied by the team leader or immediate supervisor.
* Sampling activities will be subject to the established schedule to meet mine operational requirements.
* Drive vehicles (4x4 pickup truck and 4x4 truck\) within and outside mine operations and site, as required.
* Participate in training programs to develop cross-cutting digital competencies using technological tools, identifying relevant data for analysis, understanding problem variables and root causes to propose solutions.
* Perform other duties assigned by the immediate supervisor.
**SHE Responsibilities**
* Know and apply Anglo American Quellaveco’s SHE values, principles, and policy, contributing to its vision of zero harm.
* Ensure implementation of SHE hazard and risk controls related to assigned activities at the workplace to enable safe work performance.
* Comply with internal Management System standards, procedures, and regulations; actively participate in training, awareness, and Zero Harm culture development meetings.
* Promptly report unsafe acts and conditions, as well as incidents.
* Actively participate in Safety, Occupational Health, and Environmental training, awareness, and culture development meetings.
* Halt any activity posing potential safety or environmental risk and implement appropriate critical controls.
Requirements
**Academic Qualifications and Driver’s License**
* Completed secondary education.
* Class AII driver’s license, with minimum two years’ verifiable experience.
* Technical degree and/or studies in mining preferred.
**Work Experience**
* Minimum one year of experience as a Sampler in mining operations.
* At least six months’ experience operating a backhoe preferred.
* Prior experience in geological blast-hole sampling preferred.
**SHE Competencies**
* Ability to recognize SHE hazards and risks associated with own activities, as well as identify implemented effective controls.
Additional Information
**About the Role**
* Contract: Temporary, approximately one month (due to medical leave).
* Shift Schedule: 8x6
* Base: Quellaveco
* Reports To: Mine Geologist
**Application Deadline**
