Job Summary:
The Customs Specialist manages and monitors customs clearance operations, ensuring compliance, effective communication, and execution of import/export operations.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Comprehensive management of customs clearance and regulatory compliance.
2. Key coordination among clients, the customs agency, and internal departments.
3. Handling of customs legislation and operational procedures.
The Customs Specialist is responsible for managing and monitoring customs clearance operations for assigned clients, ensuring compliance with applicable processes and regulations across various customs regimes. Acts as the primary liaison between clients, the customs agency, and internal departments, guaranteeing efficient coordination, effective communication, and accurate execution of import and export operations.
**SPECIFIC JOB FUNCTIONS**
* Data entry into the department’s operational system.
* Review of documentation for each customs regime.
* Tariff classification (basic knowledge required)
* Execution of operational procedures at various customs offices in Lima.
* Procedures and formalities at extraportuary terminals, ports, and airports.
* Coordination with shipping lines, airlines, and their agents.
* Knowledge of customs legislation, procedures, penalty tables, and related regulations.
* Physical inspection of goods (before, during, and after customs clearance, as applicable).
* Signing of official reports and other documents related to the position.
* Preparation of detailed reports on tasks performed.
* Review and use of relevant websites (SUNAT, VUCE, etc.) for operational purposes.
* Travel to various operational locations, including terminals, ports, airports, maritime agencies, etc.
* Completion of tasks assigned to the position.
* Loading/unloading of cargo at various terminals, ports, or airports.
* Endorsements, numbering, and other duties related to the position.
* Accompanying customs specialists, officials, and other representatives of related entities.
* Coordination of cargo consolidation and deconsolidation.
* Responding to client requests (internal and external) via email, telephone, WhatsApp, or other designated channels.
* Analyzing new processes or improvements to enhance task performance.
* Regularizing requested advances.
* Pre-billing of services.
* Compliance with legal and technical procedures of customs services.
* Meeting operational response deadlines.
* Attending scheduled meetings both inside and outside the office.
* Other duties as assigned.
* Monitoring of customer waybills.
* Safeguarding confidential access credentials provided for performing job functions.
Occasional Activities
• Other duties related to the position as assigned by the immediate supervisor or Management.
**Behavioral Competencies:**
* Valid and approved IATA Customs Assistant course
* Solid understanding of customs procedures
* Technical or university education
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
* Intermediate MS Office proficiency
* English desirable (Intermediate)
