Description

Job Summary: We are seeking a Mine Geotechnical Engineer to identify hazards, implement mitigation plans, and monitor slope stability, ensuring safety in mining operations. Key Responsibilities: 1. Identify and mitigate geotechnical risks in mining operations. 2. Lead field geomechanical investigation and characterization. 3. Provide geotechnical support to Operations and Drilling & Blasting. Our company, Compañia Minera Antapaccay, is seeking top talent for the position of: Mine Geotechnical Engineer (Ground Control and Characterization) Responsibilities: Identify potentially hazardous conditions or situations and apply geotechnical alarm levels, ensuring effective communication of hazards. Monitor action plans related to geotechnical risk mitigation to ensure compliance. Monitor the construction status of slopes relative to mining face planning, providing recommendations for pre\-cut sectors, delineation and limit cutting, profiling, and toe cleaning prior to bench handover in coordination with involved departments, to preserve slope stability. Conduct geotechnical supervision of pits, identifying zones with geotechnical risk, and issuing recommendations and signage for geotechnical risk control according to zones scheduled in the weekly and monthly plans. Conduct geotechnical supervision of dump unloading faces, controlling unloading distances by material type at dumps, ensuring proper material blending on the unloading platform, and recommending opening or closing of unloading faces at dumps. Define zones for dynamic installation of monitoring equipment. Prepare material characterization reports per advance face using portametrics. Instrumental monitoring and alarm management: Interpret geotechnical instrumentation and slope monitoring in pits and dumps; execute and update response plans as part of critical controls to mitigate operational risks. Geomechanical investigation and characterization: Lead field geotechnical investigation campaigns (cell-based structural mapping, diamond core logging, rock/soil mechanics laboratory testing) to maintain an up-to-date mine structural database. Geotechnical support to Operations and Drilling \& Blasting: Provide precise geomechanical guidelines to the D\&B team for controlled blasting optimization (pre\-cut, buffers) and perform geotechnical reconciliations to ensure compliance with bench design specifications. Data integration into mine planning: Process collected geotechnical information to update structural maps and models in mine planning platforms (e.g., Datamine or MineSight), ensuring geotechnical constraints are integrated into surface mining plans. Stability analysis and numerical modeling: Perform kinematic analyses and slope stability studies using specialized software (e.g., Rocscience and limit equilibrium/finite element tools), determining reliable failure modes in mining designs. Antapaccay is a copper mining operation belonging to the Glencore Group since 2013\. It commenced operations in November 2012, following several years of exploration investment aimed at extending the life of the Tintaya mine. The mining settlement is located in the province of Espinar, Cusco region, at 4,100 meters above sea level. This operation enables us to continue contributing to the sustainable development of the Espinar province — not only by fostering direct and indirect job creation and boosting the local economy through procurement from local enterprises but also by investing in social projects targeting communities within our area of influence. Requirements Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Geological Engineering, Mining Engineering, or Civil Engineering. Postgraduate qualification (specialization, diploma, or master’s degree) in Geotechnics is desirable. Technical courses or studies related to Geotechnics, laboratory work, and/or rock and soil mechanics are desirable. Other Requirements and Qualifications Knowledge of surface mining and handling geotechnical issues in mine operations. Knowledge of geotechnical mapping and geomechanical characterization of rock masses, structures, and intact rock applied in open pits. Knowledge of slope stability analysis, geotechnical models, and kinematic analysis. Familiarity with use and procedures of geotechnical instrumentation equipment, soil and rock mechanics laboratories. Knowledge of diamond drilling for geotechnical purposes, geotechnical logging, structural logging, and permeability testing for geotechnical studies. Intermediate proficiency in Rocscience, MineSight and/or Datamine is mandatory. Intermediate proficiency in MS Office is mandatory. Intermediate English proficiency is desirable. A valid Class AI driver’s license with over two years’ validity is mandatory; Class AIIa, AIIb or higher is desirable.
